Do you remember these do’s and don’ts of how to use Facebook and other social media safely?

You can now add these five tips to the list on how not to let what you post online get you into hot water on the job.

Social media is a great way to communicate with other people, but you should always be mindful of what you post. Not only should you think twice before putting something online, but this should also be applied to the type of text messages you send, the things you say on a listserv or what you chat about on IM.

So be careful and know who your online audience is and think about the things you post online and how it reflects on you.

We use facebook as a way to get information out to those who dont read the local paper. We use this media to bring local residents information about what is happening in their community and how it affects their fire department.

We first used it when the City closed down a fire station. We are surrently using it so inform voters of our campaign endorsements. We do this with status updates and our PAC has paid for facebook ads that target resident 18 and older.

Facebook and other meduims can be very powerful tools when trying to communicate with the newer generation.
