The campaign for the Senate seat left vacant by Robert Byrd is heating up.
Over the Columbus Day weekend, the IAFF gave its full support to West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin by releasing this video ad.
The video, shot last Friday in Charleston, features real fire fighters from West Virginia. The ad emphasizes the support that Manchin receives from everyday citizens living in West Virginia and will run on cable stations throughout the state this week.
Last week, the National Republican Senatorial Committee had to pull an ad from television after it was criticized for unfairly portraying West Virginians.
The NRSC held a casting call that advertised actors with a “hicky, blue collar look” that was filmed in Philadelphia.
IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger called the casting call offensive. Schaitberger described Manchin as good for the “fire fighter profession” and a "great governor."
The Professional Fire fighters of West Virginia has endorsed Manchin for the Senate.
