Tis’ the season to help

It isn’t a fire or medical issue that will bring fire fighters to the Christown Mall in Phoenix on Wednesday.

The fire fighters will “Ring the Bell” for the Salvation Army to help raise money for needy families in the Phoenix area.

The fire fighters will surround Christown Mall with kettle pots to help the Salvation Army for three hours Wednesday starting at 3pm.

Despite the struggling economy IAFF affiliates are doing all they can to help families in need.

Many of you have sponsored toy drives and are planning to distribute items to families this week.

What is your LOCAL doing this holiday season to help families in your communities? Tell the Fronline here.

  • Every holiday season, L781 members donate money from their own pockets as part of an fridge envelope donation. Those funds are combined with a donation from the local and the total is used to purchase items from a "wish list" from a chosen family. In the past we have worked in concert with  representatives of the local school district. They have a program already that selects the candidates for assistance and we were more than happy to put our hat in the ring as a donating agency. We have made a real difference in the lives of at least one family and sometimes more each year. I am especially proud of my brothers and sisters this year. Even with the tough times we find ourselves in, the envelopes went up and the donations rolled in. Just one more quiet example of the spirit of brotherhood that exists all year long within our great union. Special thanks to Captain Richelle "Rocky" Basgall for all the hard work she puts in every year running point on this endeavor.
