President Obama has been criticized by unions for his administration’s silence on the attacks on public workers and the labor movement.
But he made his most forceful comments Monday to rally workers.
“All unions have done is to build and protect the middle class and you’ve got people claiming that you are responsible for the problems people are facing today,” said President Obama.
“The fact is our economy is stronger when workers are getting good wages and benefits.”
President Obama also expressed his support for collective bargaining.
“Having a voice on the job and a chance to organize and negotiate a fair’s day pay – is the right of every woman and man.”
