This interview raised some eyebrows about companies asking applicants to give them their Facebook and Twitter passwords in order to gain more insight to their personalities.
For IAFF members wondering if they could be subjected to the same thing, the answer is no. Employers can’t access your accounts without permission.
Nevertheless, while some courts have ruled that employers are able to monitor and search personal email accounts sent using an employee provided computer, employees have a reasonable expectation of privacy while sending emails through private, password protected email accounts.
