Big Businesses Continue to Pull Support of ALEC

Big corporations are fleeing like flies from the right-wing corporate group the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is the latest backer to withdraw financial support from the organization that has helped push anti-worker legislation across the United States.

Some of the bills have ended collective bargaining, passed Right to Work laws and pushed pay check protection legislation.

Now that the spotlight is shining bright on the politics of ALEC, more businesses don’t want to be linked to an organization that promotes highly extreme and unpopular legislation.

The Gates’ announcement comes on the heels of groups like Coca Cola, PepsiCo and Kraft ending their membership in ALEC.

The IAFF is taking names of the groups and legislators who are keeping ties to ALEC. The ALEC agenda is not good for public workers or for the rest of America.
