June is National Home Safety Month

The IAFF encourages affiliates to share these tips with members of their communities.

Between June 7 and June 9, the U.S. Fire Administration reported 10 stories of home fire fatalities in the United States.

One way to encourage home safety is to continue to raise awareness about the importance of properly installing smoke detectors and fire alarms in residences.

Set up a fire public safety event in your community to show residents how to install alarms and batteries and share other safety information.

Every year, almost 1,000 smokers are killed in home fires caused by cigarettes and other smoking materials. More than one -third are children of the smokers. Share these tips from the U.S. Fire Administration about smoking and home safety.

As families have fun firing up their grills, or using fireworks in their back yards, it’s the perfect time to stress that safety should always come first.
