Building a stronger labor union and fire fighter community is vital for our profession. In January 2014, IAFF members will gather in Lake Buena Vista, Florida to discuss issues that affect members in the firehouse and globally by understanding equality, diversity and leadership, at the annual Affiliate Leadership Training Summit (ALTS) and IAFF Human Relations Conference.
Lee Saunders, president of the 1.6 million member American Federation of State, County Municipal Employees (AFSCME), will give the keynote address at the Ernest A. “Buddy” Mass Human Relations Conference, offering insight on how IAFF members can strengthen their workforce through diversity and develop the next generation of union leadership. The IAFF Human Relations Conference is dedicated to exploring the differences that helps us build solidarity amongst IAFF members.
New workshops will kick off the week at the Vincent J. Bollon Affiliate Leadership Training Summit, including topics unique to Canadian affiliates, Union Officer specific tracks, educational opportunities for Federal Fire Fighters on collective bargaining and a new workshop designed to assist members to use new technology to lobby their elected and appointed officials, just a few of the 120 workshop offerings at this years ALTS.
Please join us as we will be Building a Stronger Union through Education at the Affiliate Leadership Training Summit and celebrate 25 years of Strength Through Diversity at the IAFF Human Relations Conference.
