Plenty of politicians are getting into the holiday spirit this season.
Union-busting governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin is gearing up for his re-election next year and may as well be starring in the modern day version of the Grinch Who Stole Christmas.
Friends of Scott Walker circulated a fundraising email that encouraged supporters during this holiday season to help save children from a future of double-digit tax increases and billion dollar budget deficits.
“Instead of venturing into the cold this Black Friday, stay in and give your children a gift that will keep on giving. This year, we are celebrating the Holiday Season with a Black Friday special that is better than any deal found in stores. Donate $5, $10 or $25 to help Governor Walker get reelected and save your children from a future of double-digit tax increases and billion dollar budget deficits. Instead of electronics or toys that will undoubtedly be outdated, broken, or lost by the next Holiday Season, help give your children the gift of a Wisconsin that we can all be proud of.”
Many Wisconsin families and fire fighters are hurting in the Walker economy.
The number of Wisconsinites who disapprove of how Walker is managing the state stands close to 60 percent. Walker vowed to bring thousands of jobs to the state, but Wisconsin lags behind the national rate of job creation, ranking 34th among 50 states.
In 2011, Walker started a wave of attacks on the middle class and public workers by stripping them of the right to bargain collectively. The effort was connected to a broader, national effort supported by the likes of the billionaire Koch Brothers to turn the clock back on workers.
Workers haven’t forgotten how they were treated and are thinking of some other gifts of their own to give Walker for the next election season.
